Gambling software producer Scientific Games is set to deepen its relationship with the Netherlands Lottery after striking a new agreement to provide sports betting services.
The arrangement will see Scientific Games provide its OpenSports platform to Nederlandse Loterij, making sports betting products accessible for online bettors in the country.
The development comes as a number of operators eye up the possibilities of the online gaming market in the Netherlands, which is due to be opened up next year, although details of how the market will be regulated and associated licensing conditions have yet to be finalised.
Nederlandse Loterij is one of the few operators in the country that is currently licensed to offer gambling products to Netherlands residents. It was founded in 2016 with the merger of the State Lottery and the De Lotto company, and much of the revenue raised by the operator goes towards assisting charitable causes and sports projects in the country.
Scientific Games already has a working relationship with Nederlandse Loterij, which relies on the OpenPlatform technology and on the company’s instant lottery gaming software.
And the expansion of this relationship is good news for Scientific Games. They currently provide lottery software and services to over 150 lotteries across the world, including in Asia and the United States and the company also recently broke into the Turkish sports betting market.
Speaking about the launch of the Scientific Games sports betting service on their platform, the Business Director Sportsbook of Nederlandse Loterij, Sam Deporteere, said that it would enable them to provide a high quality sports betting product that would help to keep their existing customers engaged and attract new players.
