Sports betting technology company Genius Sports have joined up with Colombian football league Dimayor to tackle integrity problems in the game.
The league, which is one of the biggest in Latin America, will work with Genius to target match-fixing activity. Genius will help Dimayor to improve its policies, particularly in the area of insider information. They will also help the league to set up a more effective policy structure.
And Genius will also help Dimayor to isolate examples of match fixing using their Bet Monitoring System. This has the ability to track real time odds and compare them with intelligence data to help the company spot suspicious betting patterns as they occur.
Genius Sports have also said that their integrity leadership team is set to run workshops with players, coaches and officials in the league, to explain the new regulations.
And to help ensure that the league retains the integrity of its sports data, Genius will have the task of controlling the league’s statistical assets. They will help Dimayor to track illegal sources for statistics, enabling greater data integrity. Colombian football officials hope that by boosting the league’s reputation on integrity, it will be able to attract a wider global audience.
Speaking about the partnership, the President of Dimayor, Jorge Enrique Velez, said that it demonstrated the league’s serious intent to boost its reputation:
“Genius Sports is the largest company worldwide to guarantee control over this and will work alongside us in all of the games of our competitions. We are the first league in South America to engage integrity and transparency directly.”
Genius, which has its Latin America headquarters in Medellin, also staged the first sports integrity summit in the region in Bogota, in 2017, and will hope to build on this relationship to increase its presence in the Latin American sports and sports betting sector.
