A UK bingo company is committing to offering bingo fans over the age of 65 an alternative opportunity to play their favourite game during the coronavirus lockdown.
The pandemic has hit every part of UK life, but for some over-65s, it has effectively ended a significant source of social activity and contact as all bingo halls have been shut down.
As a result Gala Bingo are offering customers who are over-65 free online bingo sessions every day during the lockdown, to help them remain connected and entertained while at home. The games will be free of charge for all qualifying players until the end of the lockdown and will be held online from 10:30 to 11:30 and in the evening from 5:30 to 6:30.
As well as giving customers the chance to play bingo for cash prizes, online players will also be able to enter online chatrooms to talk with other bingo fans, which may help some individuals to stay connected throughout the period while they are forced to remain indoors. The company have also said that they will be giving out £50 shopping vouchers in order to help those who are struggling. Gala customers are being asked to name deserving people in their local community through the Gala site, with nominations having opened at the start of April.
Gala are also inviting customers to support the charity 52 Lives, which they have been working with since 2017. Players have been invited to help support the charity by playing special games each evening, from which all proceeds are used to support people in need. The charity aims to bring positive change to someone’s life every week of the year, has been involved in a number of causes, including helping those struggling with isolation.
